Frequently Asked Dental Questions – Houston, TX

Get the Answers You Need to Optimize Your Oral Health

You only get one set of teeth, which is why it’s important to know how to take great care of them! At Downtown Houston Dental, we enjoy being able to educate and inform our patients on how they can enhance their at-home oral hygiene routine and find out what treatments they can benefit from if they keep experiencing the same problems time and time again. Below, we’ve included some of the most common concerns that we receive from our patients for your convenience.

How often should I change out my toothbrush?

The American Dental Association recommends switching out the head of your electric toothbrush or getting a new manual toothbrush once every three months, whenever you notice the bristles are beginning to fray, or after you get sick.

About how long does a dental checkup and cleaning take?

The length of your checkup and cleaning visit depends on your at-home oral hygiene routine and whether you have any lingering oral issues. If not, it’s typically a quick and easy 45-minute appointment that you can easily schedule during your lunch hour if you’re tight on time.

Do you accept dental insurance?

Yes! At Downtown Houston Dental, we’re very dental insurance friendly and are happy to file claims on your behalf. We’re also in-network with nearly all major dental insurance plans offered by employers in our area.

What should I do if I can’t afford a dental treatment I need?

If you can’t afford a dental treatment, contact our dental office. We offer additional financing and are happy to work with you to make sure that your oral health is taken care of.

How often should I visit the dentist?

It’s crucial to visit your dentist once every six months for a comprehensive checkup and cleaning. This will ensure that any small, lingering oral health problems get taken care of before they develop into more serious issues down the road.

What should I do if I have a dental emergency outside of your dental office hours?

We’re happy to see dental emergency patients the same-day they call at our dental office. If you have a dental emergency outside of our dental office hours, call our number and our voicemail will direct you to a number to call for immediate help.

I have dental anxiety. Can you help me feel more comfortable?

Yes. At Downtown Houston Dental, we want you to feel comfortable and at-ease whenever you visit us, which is why we’re happy to provide oral conscious sedation for patients with anxiety or a fear of the dentist.
